Here is my second attempt at Sookie and Vampire Bill from HBO's True Blood. Tonight is the season two finale. Can't wait to see what will happen!!

Mad Monster Party Special Edition DVD Out Today!

Most people are familiar with Rankin/Bass and all of their wonderful animated Holiday Specials. I grew up watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer every year at Christmas. And I still watch it every year along with Frosty the Snowman, A Year Without Santa Claus, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, and more. But it wasn't until my early twenties that I happened upon the Rankin/Bass feature film, Mad Monster Party. A stop motion animated film featuring classic monster characters, great music and the voices of Boris Karloff & Phyllis Diller, count me in! I recorded MMP off of late night TV (TNT, back when they had MONSTERVISION), and that was my only copy until Anchor Bay released a beautiful, remastered version to DVD in 2003. It was re-released to DVD in 2005 and now it has been released at third time. This time they have included some documentary features. So I will be picking this one up when it is convenient for me.
Now, I decided to mark the occasion with a little drawing. Francesca & Yetch. Yetch loves Francesca.
This drawing was conceived to the Mad Monster Party soundtrack from Percepto records. Really great fun music.

Our local Dr. Sketchy's night resumes after a summer break

I was worried that after not seeing any activity happening with my local chapter of Dr. Sketchy's, that it was to be no more. After a two month break, my favorite drawing class returned this past Thursday. Luckily, I just happened to find out the day before!
This is a final piece I made today from a sketch I did that night. Naughty, Naughty, Naughty.

Do Not Run, We Are Your Friends...

The CHFB challenge this month was Outer Space 1950's style. And no, Mars Attacks! is not a movie from the 1950's, but it is kind of in that same spirit. I've never really been big into sci-fi horror, I've always just liked the gothic stuff. But I had fun doing this piece.

Barbara Steele

So, I've had this picture of actress Barbara Steele that I've really wanted to draw for some time now. This was attempt #4. It's probably the best one, but I'm still kind of luke warm about it. I think the image its self looks okay, I just don't know how much it resembles Babs.

The Gorgon

I've been watching this film a lot lately. The Gorgon (1964) from Hammer. This is a film I had only seen once a long time ago, but did not own until last year when Sony released it's four Hammer Horrors DVD set. I love the atmosphere in this film and the music is terrific as well.

89 More Days till Halloween, Halloween, Halloween....

This post was meant for yesterday, to mark the 90 days until Halloween, but I just didn't have time to put this all together.

Well, what else is new. First of all, I am preparing myself to participate in a 31 Days of Halloween Countdown. This has been going on for a few years now, and a lot of great blogs have been getting onboard. What does this mean for Doo Wacka Doodle? Well for the entire month of October, I will be posting something Halloween related everyday. Not all of it will tie in with my original art, but I am going to try to make at least 70-80% of my posts, something I've created myself. As an example, I might do a couple of post about cartoons I like to watch at Halloween. I will add a youtube link to the cartoon (if one exists) and then I will do an art piece in my style of said cartoon. I hope that makes sense. I've been compiling a list of things I want to do, so that when the time comes, I won't have to scramble to think of something to post. One other idea I had is 'Halloween Merchandise Items of the Week', where I show what Halloween stuff I've bought. And since I don't have a job anymore, this will be me doing some very careful consideration in my purchase items. But speaking of Halloween Merchandise, it is starting to leak out now. Based on a tip from Wens at 'Hallowe'en Tree', I went out to the local TJ Maxx/Home Goods store to see what they had to offer. I ended up with 3 items. Well, my husband actually bought one of the things. So I'll share what I got:

Country Living Halloween Book
Okay, I admit it. I am an absolute sucker for homemaking books & magazines related to Halloween. Martha Stewart is the Queen at the top of the pile, but Country Living has some appealing stuff as well. I will say this book doesn't really offer anything that I haven seen before. It does have a nice layout & lovely photographs. Much of the stuff looks very Martha Stewart-y. Here is one thing in the book that I thought was pretty neat, and I've never seen before. The gourd skull head:

I'll spend some more time with this book in a few minutes when I'm at the laundry mat drying clothes. One other thing, the book came with a card in the back for 1 year free subscription to Country Living.
