Hello all! I just wanted to let you know that I've added these four pieces to my Prints for Sale section. It only took me about an hour & a half to get these posted with working PayPal buttons. Talk about frustrating! But the buttons should work now. This was originally a set of 5, but I am out of 'Creature from the Black Lagoon' prints. Also, there are only 2 Frankensteins and 4 Dracula prints left! I will probably only do one more small run of re-prints next year for Wonderfest, and after that they will be discontinued. So whatever is left over will be offered here, but there is no telling how many I'll have left  after the show.

ALSO, I've had many requests for my Dark Shadows pieces and I just wanted to remind you all that I'll be having prints made next month. I will post about it when they are in hand and are ready to go out.

Halloween on the Brain

Well, I've been dreaming about Halloween. For the past two weeks, I've been doodling away, drawing cats, pumpkins, witches, owls, skulls and the like. And I can see by my calendar that I have about a month & a half, to get my act together before the Countdown to Halloween begins. That seems like plenty of time, but it's easy to let it slip away from you. I decided that I'll have a minimum of 7 original Halloween inspired art pieces that will appear on the countdown. Maybe more if I get super inspired. But 7 pieces is part of my scheduled plan. With all the sketching I've been doing though, I'm finding it hard to commit to spending time to working on a final piece. Maybe it's because I just don't want sit at a computer for hours on end right now. Also many of these need a little more of something, that I just don't have yet. I'm waiting for an inspirational flash!

I will say that I already have one piece done. A well-dressed pumpkin man, who will also be featured on the Doo Wacka Doodles Halloween banner this year. I think he's super cool, and I can't wait to share him! But we all have to wait, until the last day of September...

The Klopeks

A dream of mine for the past couple of years is that one day, I would get to participate in Gallery 1988's  grand group art show, Crazy 4 Cult. Well, this Thursday, this dream becomes reality! I knew that if I ever got to participate in the show, I wanted to do the Klopek family from Joe Dante's 1989 classic, 'The Burbs. I'm a huge fan of this film. I remember watching it on satellite tv back in the day about a million times. And while working on this piece, I watched it through about a dozen times. And let me tell you, it NEVER gets old. It's awesome! If you've never seen it, I highly encourage you to check it out.

If you live in or around New York, NY, go and treat yourself to a show that is going to be a fantastic display of cinematic pop culture art of epic proportions! The show opens Thursday, Aug. 9, and runs through Sept. 1.

The Dark Shadows of Video Watchdog

Hey everybody! I just wanted to share my Dark Shadows pieces from the newest issue of Video Watchdog magazine!! I also wanted to let you know that if you are interested in prints of these, they will be available in late September. I originally only had prints of Barnabas, but those are almost gone. I'll be doing a big print run next month that will include these and many of my Halloween themed pieces. In the meantime, run out and get your copy of this terrific magazine today!!

Halloween's getting closer every day...

It's true! Even though it's still a few months away, the famous Countdown to Halloween will begin on Oct. 1, 2012, and I'm already preparing for the festivities. I'm especially excited, because I've already laid out a schedule for every day of October this year! Being prepared is half the battle. Now that I have a plan, I can start getting the content ready. I still have some other projects to wrap up before I can throw my self entirely into Halloween-mode, but I can't wait to get started!

Playing around with other mediums

I wanted to share with you my 'first' painting. I've done a little bit of painting in the past, but always found it a somewhat frustrating exercise. I bought this small, blank, beveled piece of wood in the woodworking section at the craft store. Last week I decided to just paint something on it. Nothing too complicated, just something simple and fun. I've Halloween on the brain lately (it's ONLY a few months away), and while I didn't want to make it Halloween specific, I wanted to make it Halloween flavored (hince the Orange & Black). The most frustrating thing about this piece is the orange paints I have. NONE of them leave a good coat when you put in down, and I had to go over the orange parts at least 5 or six times to get a decent colorful orange. I think I might try doing more of these little paintings. This first attempt was very encouraging, and if I practice more, I'm sure to get better at it. 

Another thing I've been dabbling in is cut paper. Although this piece is from back in March. I did this cut-paper Barbarella for a gallery show at ZaPow! that ran through April. Unfortunately, this is the only good photo I have of the piece (and for whatever reason, it really looks better in person, than in the photo), because it sold. I really want to do more cut paper, because it so much like what I do in Illustrator, making shapes & layering them. I've bought a huge pile of paper from the scrapbooking section of the craft store, in all kinds of colors. I just need to figure out what I'm going to do first.

And while I'm very interested in exploring these new mediums, I still have other pressing deadlines that I need to attend to. Maybe after July I'll be able to do some more original art.

Oh and about Wonderfest: Thank you to all of you who came by to see me at my table. And for those of you who don't know, my husband broke his ankle Saturday night. I stayed up all night at the ER in KY, then went back to the hotel and slept for a few hours. Then got up and went to Wonderfest for a few hours before going back to the hospital. He's on the mend now, but it was a very unfortunate turn of events for our vacation. But everyone was very supportive and helpful and I really appreciate it!
