Lovely Christina

Well, it's been about a month since I posted something new! Last week I completed this piece: Christina from the Hammer film 'Frankenstein Created Woman'. This was my third attempt at doing a piece featuring her, and I was thrilled to actually finish it! A few months back, I started doing a bunch of sketches for what I hoped would be a series of 'Big Head' Hammer Girls. They would all be in a similar style to Christina here. Hopefully I can get back to that project soon. I also have some new 'Kids of Horror' sketches done, that I want to finish before the summer is over.

But even though I want to finish these projects, I have but one thing on the brain right now... Halloween! Some might say it's too early to be thinking about such things, but I'm trying to prepare for the Countdown to Halloween now, so that I'm not scrambling the last week of September, trying to pull something together. Also I'm making a rather ambitious Halloween costume this year. I'll be starting that project pretty soon, since I only sort of know what I'm doing and I want to make sure I have time to troubleshoot & figure things out. Fingers crossed that I'll have pics to share for the countdown.

Vampire Stuffs!

I didn't have time to post this before I left for this year's Wonderfest, but here is my latest piece. From one of my favorite Hammer films, 'Dracula, Prince of Darkness'.

Also, I had more stickers made! You can get your own Nosferatu sticker here.

I will be updating the prints page soon. I also have monster head stickers to add.
I may try later today. It just seems like every time I try to add or take out stuff, it's a major battle to get the PayPal codes to work. It makes me want to bang my head against the wall.

Comedy of Terrors

I've been busy trying to get myself ready for Wonderfest at the end of the month and my brain is fried. I completed some artwork for the Wonderfest kids t-shirts (which I'll reveal at a later date) and this weekend I finished this Comedy of Terrors piece featuring Peter Lorre, Vincent Price & 'Rhubarb' the cat.
Now back to work!!

Ollie the Werewolf

Here is my most recent version of Oliver Reed's werewolf from Hammer's CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF. Back in 2009 when I started this blog, I was also participating in the Classic Horror Film Board's 'Classic Monster Art Challenge'. Each month we had a different topic to draw and in May 2009 the theme was Lycanthropy. So of course being the Hammer fan that I am, I picked COTW. If you care to go back and look at my first attempt, just follow this link. The post also includes a couple of other pieces I did for some of the other challenges. It's amazing to me to see how my style has evolved as well as how much better I've gotten in the past 5 years.

I've been trying to post at least once a week here, and so far this year I've been doing pretty good (Yay me!) I have a Nosferatu piece that will be done as soon as I figure out the background and an Invisible Man piece in the works! Hopefully one of those will be ready next week.

Morrigan the Darkstalker

This weekend is the opening of ZaPow's newest group show, 'Bits & Bytes' Art of the Videogame. For this show I decided to go back to cut-paper. And for my subject, I chose Morrigan from the gothic monster fighting game, Darkstalkers.

In addition to my new cut-paper piece, I now have True Detective prints & Goat stickers available at the gallery!

Chaney After Midnight

I have lists (multiple lists) of subjects that I want to draw. Recently I was going over and revising those lists because I realized that Wonderfest 2014 is coming up fast & I didn't have any new monster art. So while sketching the other day, I thought that I give another go to Chaney's Vampire character in the lost silent film LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT. I attempted this several years ago, but half way through it decided that no matter how much tweaking I did to the piece, I wasn't going to be happy with it. So the piece was abandoned. I'm MUCH happier with this version anyway.

So as I mentioned, Wonderfest is coming up. Looking forward to it as always! Also wanted to mention that the 12th Annual Rondo Awards ballot is up and voting is going on now up until May 5, 2014. So go vote for your favorites in Horror!

Someone once told me, time is a flat circle...

I've got so much stuff I need to be working on right now, but I couldn't resist the urge to work on this today. This past winter I became obsessed with HBO's new show 'True Detective'. Once season one concluded, I thought I might like to draw something up as a tribute, but wasn't sure just what. But this week everything sort of fell into place and I knew exactly what to do!
So this is it, my 'True Detective' piece!
